Held To A Golden Standard!

Outlet & Switch Installation

Whether you're tired of running extension cords, adding a new appliance that needs its own circuit, or replacing old ungrounded outlets, Golden Valley Electrical handles outlet and switch installations throughout the Sacramento area — from standard duplex outlets to GFCI, 240V appliance outlets, and smart switches.

What's Included

Every installation includes a circuit assessment to make sure the new device has adequate capacity. We run wire where needed, install the device, test it, and patch any drywall access points. All work meets NEC code — proper box sizing, correct wire gauge, grounding, and GFCI protection where required.

What to Know

Ungrounded Outlets

Homes built before the late 1960s often have two-prong ungrounded outlets. These are a safety issue and limit what you can plug in. We can upgrade them to grounded three-prong outlets — or install GFCI outlets as a code-compliant alternative.

GFCI Protection Where It Counts

GFCI outlets are required by code in kitchens, bathrooms, garages, and anywhere near water. They cut power in milliseconds when they detect a ground fault. Many older homes are missing GFCI protection in these areas entirely.

Dedicated Circuits for New Appliances

EV chargers, electric ranges, dryers, and hot tubs all need their own dedicated circuit. You can't plug them into an existing outlet and call it a day. We run new circuits from the panel, install the correct outlet type, and size everything properly.

Frequently Asked Questions

In most cases yes, though it depends on wall layout and circuit routing. Adding one in the middle of a room requires fishing wire through walls, which is doable but more involved. We'll assess the best path before starting.

A standard outlet provides power continuously with no built-in protection. A GFCI monitors current flow and shuts off instantly if it detects an imbalance — protecting against electrocution in wet areas.

The NEC doesn't set a hard limit, but a 15-amp circuit should typically serve no more than 8-10 outlets. In high-use areas like kitchens or home offices, a dedicated circuit is usually the smarter move.
